The Andy Warhol of Japan

Takeshi Murakami, known as the "Andy Warhol of Japan," creates his quirky, one-of-a-kind figures and artwork by drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese painting. White Frame Included

Takashi Murakami has developed a universe of characters with strong manga and anime aesthetics. Mr. DOB, a moniker derived from the Japanese term "debojite," "why?" is the protagonist of this artwork.

Mr. DOB, Murakami's alter persona, was created in 1993 and is also known as "the Japanese Mickey Mouse": the artist purposefully made it with the attributes of the renowned American Mickey Mouse to remind the Japanese people that the Japanese culture does not require Western influences to spread.
